My Organised Chaos Set has been released!

 


Today sees the release of the 'Organised Chaos Set', available in my Ravelry store 'Bex Knitty Design' and shortly also on LoveCrafts.com!










This set comprises of a headband and jar/pot/cup cosy full of entwining twisted stitches making for a seemingly chaotic tangled trail, but which is in fact organised into a reflective symmetry of stitches starting with individual columns that tangle and twirl together before separating again. 

The headband starts with a provisional cast on and knit flat, through half of a plain back piece, then a central panel of a pattern of crossing twisted stitches, followed by the second half of the plain back piece, which will be joined at the back with the first half back piece once it’s provisional cast on is undone. It can be knit all in one yarn or use up leftovers in a complimentary yarn for the simple back piece. The cosy is knit in the same way with a provisional cast on to be joined later, with a simple half chart repeat in the same pattern as the headband and finished off with a basic and stretchy garter stitch back that you can customise to be either in the same yarn as the front, a different yarn or even scrappy stripes as in my sample. This cosy, in its smaller size than the headband, also works as a great gauge piece to be worked before the headband. Both pieces are great scrap busters and perfect gift knits!

I love how you can draw with yarn!

  I am totally still obsessed with my latest release, the Deco Decadence Shawl ! What I loved about the process of creating this shawl was the absolute engagement in the images and the yarn and the shapes. They started as simply, images, symbols, motifs, and the lines and holes that allow them to take form. And you can take some needles and some yarn and you can work your fingers/needles/yarn and really develop those lines and holes from something rather flat and limited in your mind to some alive and vital. It's a real and tangible way of drawing that brings such a sense of self achievement- that you can feel time and time again, everytime you see the image move as you do, the sway of the folds making 'waves' of fluidity and flow out of those lines, and the light bringing shards of life through the holes to illuminate their picture... This shawl is a comforting, mediative & restful combination of squishy garter stitch,  bright stripes in varying widths, and graphic patterning.  Just pick some yarns in shades you love and enjoy the squishy stripy yarny journey until you end up with a large, squishy, bold, wraparound of a shawl.
