My Woven Hat has been released!

Image
Today sees the release of the ' Woven Hat ' , available in my Ravelry store ' Bex Knitty Design ' and shortly also on LoveCrafts.com! This Hat is packed with texture and interest so there’s hardly a dull moment as you create a squishy cosy fabric utilizing both the Right and Wrong sides of bands of Linen stitch, as well bobbles, cables & garter stripes, creating an almost olden world woven look, from another era but also timeless in its snuggly promise. A provisional cast on is used at the start, if you are opting for a picot edging for the brim, and then opened and the picot bind off worked, once you have worked your way through the body of the hat and completed the closure of the crown. You can add more ‘slouch’ amount by working extra garter ridges before commencing with crown decreases. Knitting skills & techniques used: Intermediate - Advanced: Casting on/provisional cast on using crochet hook method and waste yarn, binding off (with picot option), knitti...

My Trawler Hat has been released!

Image
Today sees the release of the  'Trawler Hat' ,  available in my Ravelry store ' Bex Knitty Design ' and shortly also on LoveCrafts.com! This hat is a combination of an intuitive and dense geometric pattern of twisted stitches for texture and interest and the warmth of a squishy fisherman’s rib brim, making for toasty warmth in the cold weather. The result is an engaging knit and a hat of cosy goodness, which is both lovely to look at and great to wear .  After working a snuggly Fisherman’s Rib brim, knit up in either 1 or 2 colours, you’ll work continuously to the crown decreases in the diamond patterned chart made up of alternating Right and Left leaning twists. Due to the nature of these stitches, it is a fairly tight-fitting but is open to various size adjustments. You can add more ‘slouch’ amount by working extra repeats of the chart pattern before proceeding to crown decreases, and in circumference by adjusting the cast on amount, as explained within the Finished ...

New Knitting Adventures...

Image
New Knitting Adventures... For me, at least, the bulk of knitting releases I have always launched during the later half of the year and so now that 'busy' time is soon upon me... I am all ready to go actually, with most test knitting wrapped up, so it should be a fairly smooth ride, with 6 new patterns to release over Sep/Oct/Nov, the first of which will be The Woven Shawl on the 30th September 😀 I love the texture of this shawl, it has a very traditional homely woven look - hence the name lol - created by utilising both sides of Linen stitch, as well as squishy Garter stitch which for me is the quiet hero of knitting. In other news... All of this preprepatory organization has paid off as planned, in that it has left me free to work on my most scariest and probably due to be longest project so far - the sweater I am currently knitting up  At first it was alot of throwing myself into the maths side which totally daunts me and even more of knitting 2 rounds just to rip...

Knit, Knit, Rip, Rip, Knit, Knit ...

Image
Knit, Knit, Rip, Rip, Knit, Knit ... There has been a whole lot of the part I love most about designing since the last post- the actual knitting! I knit and then ripped out and then knit again on my Worsted weight triangular shawl (I think I referred to it as DK previously?) I have been working on, due to not being happy with the way of the stitch patterning was meeting in the centre, so a bit behind in progress on it, but very happy with how it's looking now! I hope you like the look of it too from the pictures under the design  in progress section below! Also been mulling over a design that I have had in my mind but I am not too sure if I should actually make or not. It's wrap version of some patterns I already have published, and it will possibly mean some chart conversion from in the round to flat and a whole lot more planning, but I'm still not totally sure if I'll be going down that path with it or not ... will try to come to a concrete decision over the weekend...

I wish there were just the fun parts...

Image
I wish there were just the fun parts... This week has been all about pattern writing which is not my favourite part of the design process but is obviously very important, so if I am to keep on track with the 2021 schedule I have set myself, I needed to get this patterns written up by the end of this week … that is that box ticked.  I do tend to wish designing could be all about sourcing lovely yarns and just being immersed in the stitches but there is the more colder side like writing up patterns. I used to write each row as I knit it with a pencil and large foolscap worth of paper, but now I tend to type those rows down instead on a rough Word doc draft so at least I don't have to start, like I used to, with having to type up every faintly scrawled in pencil word, which was definitely worse than the new system. Now it's mainly copying everything over, lots of just fixing any quick typing errors, making sure everything that should be in lower / upper case is, putting everyth...
