My new pattern The Surrey Avenue Shawl has been released!



The Surrey Avenue Shawl by Bex knitty design



This shawl is a large Triangular shaped Shawl, knit up in Aran Weight traditional Crunchy Shetland wool to maximize it’s homely cozy comforting appeal.
The construction is worked along the clear and simple lines of yarn over increases at the center spine of the shawl and at either ends to grow the piece evenly and swiftly , whilst switching between stripes of Garter and panels of purl textured stockinette, at regular timed intervals.
This piece knits up so fast whilst you move through the clearly laid out path of mindless comforting Garter and then building interest as you create the alternating textured patterning and then move smoothly back into a Garter break and so on.
It is worked in 3 colours, a strong voice of a speckle to act as separating stripes to the accompanying 2 solid colours that are both light and warm to work as a canvas for the sections of  classic alternating diamond style texture which add interest to both the finished product and the joy of this easy knit fast growing comfort knit of a Shawl. Choose a colour trio combination that warms your knitty 
heart.

There is a point before working the final border Garter section where you can work an extra set of stockinette and garter panels to extend the size if you wish to

I love how you can draw with yarn!

  I am totally still obsessed with my latest release, the Deco Decadence Shawl ! What I loved about the process of creating this shawl was the absolute engagement in the images and the yarn and the shapes. They started as simply, images, symbols, motifs, and the lines and holes that allow them to take form. And you can take some needles and some yarn and you can work your fingers/needles/yarn and really develop those lines and holes from something rather flat and limited in your mind to some alive and vital. It's a real and tangible way of drawing that brings such a sense of self achievement- that you can feel time and time again, everytime you see the image move as you do, the sway of the folds making 'waves' of fluidity and flow out of those lines, and the light bringing shards of life through the holes to illuminate their picture... This shawl is a comforting, mediative & restful combination of squishy garter stitch,  bright stripes in varying widths, and graphic patterning.  Just pick some yarns in shades you love and enjoy the squishy stripy yarny journey until you end up with a large, squishy, bold, wraparound of a shawl.
