Bex Knitty Design

  The squish of garter, the path of lace ... I have recently put aside one design WIP in order to pick up another. I don't usually do this, but it was simply a question of time in the schedule for the process involved, for both designing and testing,  with that particular design. So my 'Periwinkle Sparkle' lacy wrap I have talked of recently, is going into hibernation, I still love the design, so this won't be forever, just pushing it til Spring 2022 instead, the next space in the schedule for release of just such a wrap. So on that one, it's until we meet again for  now. This means I have been working solely on the next planned design, and I am tallying with the name The Whimsical (or whimsy) Lane Wrap for this one, as that is just the feeling I get from it so far, but I will detail that a bit more below. I would like to talk a little about knitting preferences. I realise I sit, as a knitter, somewhere between not wanting to be bored and not wanting to be challenge...

  A Hat for releasing, a shawl for testing, and wraps for designing... This week has been a mixture of design work tasks. First few days I usually ease into it slow and relaxed, with the part I love most - The actual knitting! So I spent some time working on the soft and floaty wrap using Emeteri Silky Singles, to see how that pattern is panning out, and then it was onto preparing my next design to go out on testing, the 'Sanctuary Shawl', (slightly altered name from before, but an even more prettier shawl, now that it's been blocked!) So it is now out with some of my wonderful test knitting team members and I am hoping they enjoy knitting this ever changing journey of a shawl as much as I did! Perhaps we will start to see some very early beginnings of progress which can be included in next week's test section 😊 Next on the agenda was working through all the preparation involved in a release, for my next design launch, and a bit more on that below...   Lace or texture, or both... This week I have been enjoying the planning of my next design WIP, which is detailed below, which should entail some very pretty lace charts, but I have opted to add some textured knit & purl patterning as sometimes it's hard to choose between the two out of what kind of knitting stitches I enjoy working the most, and why not go for both if that mean's double the enjoyment! I love the look of cables but I don't enjoy actually knitting them so much, whereas I love knitting lace and for some reason knitting lace patterns always seem to whizz by on the needles for me! I love to combine lace sections coming from cables, just as I did with my ' Braided Lace Shawl ' and now with my matching ' Braided Lace Hat ' which has been released today, so more about that below!   Throw, Flick, Pick - We all have our own way to knit...   Recently I have been thinking about the different methods used by knitters, the varying gauge and preferred density of fabric produced and such... I love that all knitters have their own way to knit, as in the style and methods they use, Continental, English / Victorian, whether we pick, flick, throw, and it can produce some very different results, and gauges, between knitters. And then, we all have our own preferred choice of fabric density and stiffness that we look for in different projects, a denser gauge for socks, a more drape focused fabric for shawls, etc I am an English Thrower. In the past, I have thought about learning to flick, and maybe even try continental, but I find I am very sentimentally attached to the way I knit, even though it might not be the most efficient way to knit, when it comes to extra hand movement and speed being affected.
